A potentiometer is a variable resistor used for partial pressure. One or two movable metal contacts are tightly pressed on the bare resistor body. The contact position determines the resistance between any end of the resistor body and the contact point. It is a linear potentiometer (linear relationship) and a trimmer potentiometer (Vertical Adjustment Type) (a curve relation) according to the relationship between the wire winding, the carbon film and the solid core potentiometer. The main parameters are resistance, tolerance and rated power. It is widely used in electronic equipment, instrumentation, and volume control in sound and receiver.

When a voltage is added between the two fixed electrical contacts of the resistance body, the position of the contact on the resistance body is changed by a rotating or sliding system, and a voltage which is related to the position of the movable contact can be obtained between the moving contact and the fixed contact.

The circuit has positive and negative symmetry power supply. Example: when the center contact C of the potentiometer slides to the A end of the potentiometer, the OUT output voltage is +12V. When the center contact of the potentiometer is slid to the B end of the potentiometer, the voltage of the OUT output to the ground voltage is -12V.
